EICC hosts IEC 2024 congress
The Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC) hosted the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 2024 General Meeting. AV Department Ltd (AVD) were on site to help support a logistically complex event.
The EICC commissioned AVD to supply the delegate microphones to the multiple rooms and meetings as part of the International Electrotechnical Commission’s 2024 General Meeting.
AVD supported 20 meetings during the congress with systems ranging from just a few wireless delegate mics to 120 wired delegate microphones for the concluding General Assembly.
Many of the meetings were also hybrid and so made use of PTZ cameras as part of the package.
A variety of different systems were deployed depending on the meetings specific needs. Rooms with Cabaret style tables used our Shure MXCW wireless microphones to reduce cables and provide the flexibility of being able to move the microphones about the tables to where they were needed most. This can help reduce the number of microphones needed to cover a table from 5 to just 2 or 3.
Boardroom set ups were catered for by our Sennheiser ADN microphones providing a great sounding microphone with geographic control straight out of the box allowing precise microphone control by your technical team ensuring the best audio goes to your audience (both in the room and on line).
The larger Classroom style room layouts of the General Assembly were accommodated by the more scalable Shure / DIS 6990 microphones. The audience of 240 active participants were served by 120 microphones on a one between 2 basis. A wired system installed in a Classroom style arrangement needs multiple external power supplies to allow each row to be supplied by a discreet cable from the main power supply. This not only keeps the cables tidy but just as importantly if there were to be a fault in the row it would be isolated and so does not impact on any other row.
It was not just the number of mics being used that made the congress a logistical challenge. The room schedule was fast paced and required the co-ordination of teams of staff to move equipment from room to room keeping pace with the house keeping team who were re arranging the tables to meet client needs. During the week rooms would go through several table layout changes :- cabaret, boardroom, classroom portrait, classroom landscape back to theatre style. Our team were therefore mainly deployed to move and set up equipment and the EICC staff were operational so making the best use of our resources.
While AVD were on site at the EICC our extensive microphone inventory was being used by other AV companies in the outlaying venues also hosting this congress.
In total AVD had over 400 microphones in active use over course the congress.
