Ratios are important!
Here we have our trusted colleague Ciaran. Ciaran today is modelling a ‘scarf’ of our specially made 2m Van Damme Tour Cat cables.

Like Ciaran our cables are strong and flexible, they perform very well unless over stretched… (I am talking about the cables… not Ciaran who performs well in all situations).
These cables are carefully made for AVD by Van Damme and utilise stranded wire as opposed to a solid core wire. This gives flexibility and allows them to hang neatly between mics rather than looking all crinkled and messy, more like an audio cable and less like a data cable.
The blue ends (boots) of the cables denote these as being 2m long. 2m is the ideal cable length needed to join 2 microphones together in one of our delegate microphone systems, when used in the ratios of 1 mic per person (1:1) or one mic shared between two (1:2) persons. The 2m cable is supplied as the standard when hiring a mic system.
Should you wish to increase the ratio to 1 between 3 or 4 persons (1:3 or 1:4) you need to let us know and we can then supply a 5m cable per mic (green boots) this allows some movement to pass the mic to those who wish to speak without pulling the other mics off the table or stressing the connections. Over stretching the cable could possibly result in system issues. There is no change in the cost in a different cable length.
So please advise us about your room layout and ratios when hiring and we can then design and supply a cable set to suit your specific needs including, 10m cables (yellow boots), 20m cables (grey boots) as well as various repeaters, junction boxes and external power supplies to ensure your hire goes smoothly and your clients return to you for future hires.
Thanks goes to Ciaran for making cable lengths and delegate ratios in any way entertaining.
